How Are Vitamin C Tablets Made?

Ever wanted to know how vitamin C tablets are made? All right then, if you insist :-).

It is said that some companies make vitamin C with varying degrees of purity of L-ascorbic acid. One company was actually producing a consistency of 99.9% purity level.

In some cases the following ingredients are needed in order to make a vitamin C tablet:

Starch might be used as a binder.
Lactose is used as a stabilizer.
Sugar and food color are then used as the coating.

It is important to note that all the ingredients and process of combining them must be in compliance of the drug and food regulations.

A simpler method might be to go to your local pharmacy and purchase effervescent vitamin C powder that you then dissolve in 20ml of water, and then fill the rest of the glass with fruit juice to help with the taste. Do not neutralize Ascorbic Acid more than arround 90 - 95%.

Now I am sure you have your reasons on wanting to make your own vitamin C tablet. The great thing about vitamin C is that you can find it quite easily in many fruits, and therefore don't really need to know how to go about making a tablet.

Another idea might be just to buy it from the pharmacy ;-)
