Research on foods high in antioxidants
Research on foods high in antioxidants has led to quite a few interesting findings. Purple berries have been found to have the highest antioxidants amongst fruits, even higher than cranberries and blueberries. This bit of research was done by a group of USDA scientists.
The following foods high in antioxidants are listed below in no particular order:
Citrus fruits, berries, tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, vegetable oils, wheat, green leafy vegetables, egg yolk, milk fat, butter, meat, nuts, organ meats, seafood, avocados, liver, potato, kale turnip, pink grapefruit, cantaloupe, apricots, beet greens, collard greens, Papaya, cheddar cheese.
By eating a balanced diet of the following above listed foods, you will allow your body to include the several types of antioxidants that are needed in effectively fighting against the different types of free radicals that exist.
Studies have also found that foods which are the highest in antioxidants are certain fruits and vegetables.
Other research has found that you should focus on eating fruits and vegetables that have rich hues of color. The reason for this is that these fruits and vegetables are high in phytonutrients.
What are phytonutrients?
They are nutrients found in the skins of fruits and vegetables and are responsible for their color, taste and scent.
