Vitamin d & cancer
Vitamin d & cancer have been under the spot light for quite some time now. This amazing vitamin has over the years shown to have a huge protective effect against quite a few kinds of cancer.
Ever the last 50 years, medical documentation has suggested that getting a regular exposure to sun has also been associated with the decrease of death rates that have occurred from certain cancers. Keeping in mind however, by getting too much sun light, you can also be at risk to developing skin cancer. On the other side of the coin however, in 1936 on researcher had found that patients with skin cancer have reduced rates of other types of cancers. Another study has estimated that by getting a moderate dose of sun every day, 30, 000 cancer deaths in the United Stats alone would be prevented.
After your skin is exposed by sunlight, vitamin D is then manufactured in your skin. What seems to happen then is that the vitamin has a protective effect against certain types of cancers by making sure that there is not an overproduction of cells.
This amazing vitamin has even gone a step further. It seems as though it may also be very effective in providing tumor therapy. Studies have shown that vitamin D can hugely enhance the radiation treatment on tumors. Especially those that is associated with cancer of the breast. It seems that by using vitamin D analog with radiation, one could potentially be able to wipe out radiation-resistant cancer cells. It is found that vitamin D can be very effective against the following types of cancers such as; colon, skin, prostate and breast cancer. Studies have shown that by getting a daily dose of vitamin D, one will be able to cut the risk of breast cancer and colon cancer by up to a half. Because of the positive news on this great nutrient, vitamin D & cancer should be in the spot light for quite a while.
