Vitamin d and gum and teeth health

Vitamin D and gum and teeth health have been quite an interest these days. It seems after some research done on this vitamin, studies have shown that people in the highest quintile for vitamin d we 20% less likely to get gum disease.

It is found that vitamin D can improve gum and teeth health because of its anti-inflammatory effects. A study was done by the Boston University which evaluated the association between vitamin D status and gingivitis. After analysing 77,503 teeth in 6700 people which was taken from data of the third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, they found that people with higher blood levels of vitamin D in their blood were experiencing less bleeding gums during gingival probing.

It seems there that people with higher levels of vitamin D in there blood is not only good for teeth and gums, but also for healthy teeth and gums.

There are some scientists out there that believe that vitamin D could actually affect the gum because of its role in bone mineral density. New trials however don't seem to find any association between the bone mineral density and gum disease or attachment loss.

What ever the case may be my healthy freaks; don't think it excuses you from brushing and flossing everyday. It is just one of those things that  will always be a necessity!

Besides, nothing here was mentioned about bad breath and vitamin D ;-)
